GEORGE Dunne of Killurine, Killeigh celebrated his 101st birthday with family and friends last Saturday night at his home.

George was born in Killurine on June 19, 1911. He met Kitty Farrell, Cappincur and on September 29, 1943 they were married.

In 1946 they moved to Killurine where they raised their nine children, George, Margaret, Joe, John, Oliver, Catherine, Patrick, Mary and Paul.

George worked in Williams Carpentry, Tullamore and later Clonad Sawmills. He has always enjoyed fishing, shooting, boxing and tug o war.

He says he has no secret to long life but he has worked hard and has always enjoyed his cup of tea first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

His wife Kitty passed away on May 4 last year and so his 100th birthday was tainted with sadness. He was delighted to receive a letter and medal from President Michael D Higgins to mark the occasion.

His children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, family members and friends extend heartiest congratulations to George on his 101st birthday.
