€2,000 will be given to Tullamore Credit Union towards the co-sponsoring of its Tidy Tullamore 2012 competition by Tullamore Town Council.
Under the Community Grant Scheme, the Town Council will provide the funding to the annual competition.
Addressing its April meeting, Cllr Sinead Dooley, an Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Town Council, said that it was money well spent and it was “great to see the community working together to improve their area”.
Cllr Sean O’Brien pointed out that the competition had “really taken off” and it was bringing people together in the town. “It is of great benefit to Tullamore,” he said, adding that the money also filters back into the area.
He seconded Cllr Dooley’s proposal.
Cllr Declan Harvey also welcomed the proposal and also suggested that the competition prizes could include some trees or plants this year.
Cllr Brendan Killeavy believed that it was a “good competition” while Cllr Tommy McKeigue appealed for more residents groups, who haven’t already taken part in the annual competition, to get involved.
Cllr Molly Buckley also lent her support to the proposal.
Meanwhile, a formal meeting to confirm the recipients of the 2012 Community Grants scheme is expected to take place shortly.
