CATHAOIRLEACH of Tullamore Town Council Sinead Dooley was on hand last Tuesday to launch the upcoming Free Mad Pride Family Fun Day at the Park which takes place on Sunday August 7 from 1pm to 5pm.

This is the second time this free family fun day will have been hosted in Tullamore following on from last year’s very successful event. Mad Pride Ireland has already hosted a massively successful event in Cork on June 5 which saw over 17,000 people attend the free family fun event as well as their first event in Ballydehob West Cork in May this year which saw over 1,500 people enjoying the free music, fun and community.

The event in Tullamore is the result of an ongoing relationship with the HSE to bring the fully free family event to the midlands.

The day will again offer a wide range of free entertainment for all the family with music from Novella Hermosa, The Dizzy Blues Band and others. Families at this fully free event will also be able to enjoy clowns, puppets, face painting and fun.

John Mc Carthy organiser of the Mad Pride Family Fun Days said, “This is the fourth year of our events, and the second year here in Tullamore, we love coming back because the people here are so open to what we are trying to do which is simply enjoying each other’s company in an open, honest and non-judgemental environment. We have had over 62,000 people attend our events since we started and this is a sure sign that our approach works, the simple message of “Celebrate Difference, Stop Loneliness” is hitting home and we are delighted to continue our work with the HSE to try and open and widen the debate on mental health in Ireland.”

He continued, “The sun shone and the kids laughed at our event in Lloyd Town Park last year and we look forward to more of the same this year. We have another full programme with great music, clowns, puppets and lots, lots more so I really am looking forward to meeting people from Tullamore and across the midlands on August 7. If people want to have a look at some of our previous events to get a better idea of what they can enjoy they should log on to www.madprideireland.ie .”

Cllr Dooley said, “It gives me great pleasure to support the efforts of Mad Pride Ireland to reduce the impact of stigma around Mental Health in our society. Mad Pride Ireland is helping to bridge a gap in understanding with its fun events. Laughter is a tonic we cannot have enough of, so I hope to see the people of the midlands come out on August 7 and welcome and support this worthy effort.”
