For anyone in business or thinking about taking the leap into self employment, it is worth checking out their wide range of courses designed specifically for entrepreneurs.

If you are thinking of starting your own business, you should consider doing their Start your Own Business course. The course brings the participants through all stages of preparing for a business start-up - from planning and conducting basic market research right through to creating a business plan. This is a very popular course so if you are interested you should contact Offaly County Enterprise Board as soon as possible to book your place. Courses are being held in Tullamore, Birr and Rhode during the evenings, plus a one day programme in Tullamore which covers the essentials that you need to know about setting up on your own.

There is also a half day Business Ideas workshop for anyone who would like to set up a business but has yet to decide what kind they would like to set up. It is designed to help participants come up with ideas using practical exercises and idea generation techniques.

For mothers who are considering self employment then a new programme called “Becoming a Mompreneur” may be of interest. It conveniently takes place on a Saturday and is designed by a working mother specifically for mothers who would like to set up their own business while juggling motherhood and all its demands.

Among the other programmes available are Small Business Accounts, Art of Effective Selling, Time Management, Selling on eBay and How to Create a Winning Tender. The courses are free to anyone in receipt of a Social Welfare payment such as Job Seekers Benefit or Allowance, so a great opportunity to upskill yourself at no cost, prior to setting up your business.

In addition to offer training programmes for start up and existing small businesses, Offaly County Enterprise Board has a number of other supports available to businesses in Offaly.

To assist enterprises with specific aspects of development, the Board has a wide range of Business Advisors and Mentors who can work with clients on a confidential one-to-one basis. Offaly CEB also have a free network for businesses called ONE, which meets once a month, with presentations by experts on areas such as finance, marketing and business planning. It is a great way for new and existing business owners to meet others in the same situation, and an ideal opportunity to promote their own business in an informal way.

Offaly CEB may also be able to provide financial assistance to eligible businesses in the manufacturing or internationally traded services sectors. This can help towards taking on staff, purchasing equipment and other business requirements.
