Fianna Fáil have ‘political amnesia’ - Stanley

SINN Féin TD Brian Stanely has launched a scathing attack on Fianna Fáil stating that the party has developed “political amnesia”. He was speaking in relation to Fianna Fail opposing property taxes and water charges, and said that Fianna Fáil “must be dizzy from their political somersaults”.

Deputy Stanley said that although Fianna Fáil are opposing property taxes and water charges proposed by the current Government, they outlined similar proposals in their own four year plan for 2011 to 2014.

“According to their four year plan they would raise €530 million from property taxes. That is over three times what the current government hope to raise from the doomed household charge. In addition they claimed their water charges would raise €500m. Based on 1.05 million households this would amount to €500 per household annually”.

Speaking in response to this claim, Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming told the Leinster Express that Sinn Féin’s figures do not add up.

“The only flawed document is Sinn Féin’s current budget proposals, launched last week. The majority of their figures are based on false assumptions. Their figures do not add up”.

However Dep Stanley said that Fianna Fáil are responsible for the destruction of this country.

“Fianna Fáil are attempting to reinvent themselves in opposition. This simply won’t fool the public. Their four year plan reads like a Fine Gael manifesto.

“Property taxes, water charges and attacks on low and middle income families continue to be the hall mark of bad government. These were introduced by Fianna Fáil in government and are currently being implemented with relish by Fine Gael and Labour”, he said.
