Students from the Sacred Heart School in Tullamore and Seton Catholic Preparatory school in Chandler, Arizona have joined forces to create a cookery book with a difference just in time for Christmas.
The Transition Year class in SHS Tullamore offers recipes for breads, main courses, side dishes and festive cakes, desserts and treats while the Chandler students titled their section Desert Fare, very appropriate considering the climate in Arizona!
In the introduction to each section there is information on Tullamore and Chandler, the two schools and the history of the twinning of the two areas. There are also contributions from Cllr Tony McCormack, Chairperson of Tullamore-Chandler Sister Cities Commitee, Cllr Sinead Dooley, Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Town Council and SHS Principal Pauline McKenna as well as a brief history of Tullamore.
Cllr Dooley said she was very excited to see the links that are being developed between secondary school students in Tullamore with their counterparts in Arizona. “It provides a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange, all of it enabled by the wonders of modern technology.”
Principal McKenna added that the cookbook “represents the start of a new partnership, the merging of passionate ideas and opinions, the blending of cultures and traditions and the creation of a wonderful new friendship, that will provide sustenance for all.”
The cookbook is now on sale through the SHS, Tullamore and will be available this Friday, December 16 in the Bridge Centre, Tullamore and Tullamore Credit Union as part of the TY’s annual Sales Day.
