a Tullamore man has denied charges against him that he had sex in a public place in Dubai, a charge that could bring with it a three year jail sentence.

28-year-old Conor McRedmond is accused of being drunk in a public place and having sex before marriage with British woman Rebecca Blake.

Mr McRedmond was working for an engineering firm in Dubai and had been at an Irish bar before taking a taxi with Ms Blake on May 4.

The taxi driver got annoyed when the couple started kissing in the back of the car and pulled over to tell a police patrol car. It’s alleged that when he returned to the car the couple were having sex in the back seat.

They were arrested and taken to the Jebel Ali police station where they were held for five days.

Both deny the charges, with Ms Blake claiming she was charged with having an open bottle of beer in the back of the car.

The couple have been released on bail until May 30.
