With oil currently being the cheapest home heating fuel in Ireland, OFTEC, which represents the domestic oil heating and cooking industry, is encouraging people to stock up now to enjoy further savings and reminding consumers to service their boiler ahead of the winter.
September is a great time to order oil and service heating appliances ahead of the busy winter period. David Blevings, OFTEC Ireland Manager, said “While it’s easy to put off ordering home heating oil or servicing the boiler until the winter actually comes, the good news is that oil is currently the cheapest form of heating a home in Ireland with prices down over 50% on 2013 prices. We would recommend consumers ordering now while prices are low and ahead of any winter demand.
‘We would suggest consumers book a boiler and tank service now to make sure your boiler is ‘winter ready’ as there is nothing worse than a heating appliance breaking down in mid-winter leaving a house cold.
“September is an ideal time to have your boiler serviced and appliances checked by an OFTEC registered technician. The kids are back to school and the heating will soon be switched on to take the chills out of the mornings but is your appliance running efficiently and safely? The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland is advised that all heating appliances should be serviced annually to ensure maximum efficiency and to make sure the appliance is not leaking carbon monoxide. Servicing will ensure your home heating system is safe and efficient and could potentially save money on your annual heating bills. OFTEC Registered Technicians are recommended by the SEAI Ireland as they are registered as competent persons.”
OFTEC also advise people to buy in bulk as several small orders of heating oil will cost you more than one large order.
