DOUBLE All Ireland winning manager with St Mary’s Secondary School in Edenderry Emmett McDonnell is in line to take over as Offaly Senior Football manager.

Discussions are believed to be on going but it is understood that McDonnell is the prefered candidate at this stage.

Earlier this year he lead St Mary’s Secondary School to victory in the All Ireland A Colleges Senior Football Final with a superb and stylish win in the final in Croke Park over St Michael’s of Enniskillen. St Mary’s dominated the game scoring 1-10 in the first half alone.

That was his second All Ireland title having previously lead the school to victory in the All Ireland B Final in Breffni Park over St Eunan’s in a memorable game in 2007.

A number of players that have been through the successful St Mary’s system under McDonnell are featuring at inter-county level for both Offaly and Kildare and more will follow in the years ahead.
