THE Sacred Heart School Tullamore Junior Camogie team are through to the All-Ireland semi-final after they registered a minimum margin, 3-4 to 3-3, victory over Ulster champions St Catherine’s College in Pearse Óg Park, Armagh city last Saturday.

SHS overcame Castlecomer CS in the Leinster Final and they suffered an early blow as they went 1-1 to nil behind, with Armagh’s Shannon Kelly finding the net.

Deirdre Coonan replied with a converted free and the teams were soon deadlocked as half forward Chloe McGlinchey sent the sliotar flying into the back of the Armagh net.

SHS dominated the next few minutes with Deirdre Coonan again putting over another point and Aisling Fox added a lovely goal.

The pendulum swung back to St Catherine’s during the closing minutes of the first half and they hit 1-2 without reply to go in leading at the interval by 2-3 to 2-2.

SHS resumed with intent and the omens looked good when Aisling Fox once again beat Armagh goalie, Ciarrai Devlin. Chloe McGlinchey and Lisa Gorman both added a point each giving the Tullamore school a 3-4 to 2-3 advantage.

On their home patch, St Catherine’s fought back and Alanna Muldoon found the back of the net to leave a solitary point separating the sides. St Catherine’s piled on serious pressure but they couldn’t conjure up an equaliser as SHS clung on for a famous win.

Shannon Touhey produced fantastic saves, while with thirty seconds remaining Touhey flanked by Ayesha Brazil and Paula Kinnarney on her goal line saved a penalty struck by Eimear O’Kane of St Catherine’s stood over the ball. The referee sounded his final whistle shortly after this dramatic save and there was great jubilation among the SHS girls as their quest for All-Ireland glory goes on.
