IT came as no surprise when the newly crowned AIB Leinster Club Senior Hurling Champions Coolderry were named as the Club of the Year at the Offaly GAA Convention last week.
Club Chairman Colman Hogan accepted the cup on behalf of his club saying it gave him ‘great pride’ to do so.
He noted that it had been ‘a very special year’ for the club as they had won their 29th Offaly Senior Hurling title and a first Leinster Senior Club title.
Mr Hogan thanked all the clubs in the county for their support and he said the team would do their best for Coolderry, Offaly and Leinster when they took to the field in the All Ireland Championship after Christmas.
He also commented on the club’s success at Junior B level eliciting a laugh from the delegates when he noted that some of the players hadn’t played as much in four years as they did in three encounters with Shamrocks was finally decided.
Mr Hogan also pointed to the club’s U-14 team who had won the county title for just the second time and he noted that the bulk of the current Leinster Championship winning team was made up of players who were on the previous side to win the U-14.
