After a first-half where they were on top in every aspect of the game except on the scoreboard, St Mary’s cut loose in the second-half scoring 2-11 as they avenged last year’s defeat against the same side with a 13 point demolition of Dundalk Colleges.
St Mary’s, Edenderry 3-15
Dundalk Colleges 0-11
Despite the fact that the defending champions managed to get to half-time on level terms, they were no match for their Offaly opponents who scored 1-7 in the first ten minutes of the second-half, a spell that showed exactly what they are capable of when they hit their straps.
With the scoring prowess of hat-trick hero Cian McMonagle, the creative guile of Ruairi McNamee and the power of Ger Leech, the St Mary’s forward line had a field day and, had they had their shooting boots on from the start, they could have posted a far greater total against a Dundalk side who defensively looked a shadow of last year’s provinvial title winning side.
