Sunday June 10 was an important date in the Ladies GAA calendar in Offaly. The under 14 Championship Finals were held and the four teams taking part were St Broughan’s and Shamrocks competeing for the Under 14 B title and Naomh Ciaran and Edenderry competeing for the under 14 A title.

The first match of the day got underway at 1pm in Daingean. It was between St.Broughan’s and Shamrocks Under 14 Ladies teams to see who would clench the Under 14 B Title. With Shamrocks being narrowly beaten in this position by Killeigh last year and St.Broughan’s paticipating in their first ever County Final both teams had it all to play for. The St.Broghan’s team were only formed late last year so were hoping to head off their first season with a win.

Shamrocks though were the stonger side on the day and came out the victors. Their experience was evident and they were crowned the Under 14 B County Champions 2012. St Broughan’s did extremely well for the first year in the championship and should be proud of their efforts throughout the entire year. They can hold their ends high and hopefully do as Shamrocks did and come back to win the title next year.

Offaly Ladies GAA would like to express their thanks to Daingean GAA for the use of their facilities on the day and to St.Vincents Ladies for their help on the day.

The second match of the day was held in Tubber and got off to a great start at 3pm. The two teams hoping to emerge victorious as Under 14 A Champions were Edenderry and last years Champions Naomh Ciaran.

The odds were stacked against Edenderry with not only playing last year’s under 14 Champions but also the Division 2 All Ireland Feile Champions 2011. Edenderry put in a great preformance on the day but it was Naomh Ciaran who took the under 14 County Championship title 2012. Naomh Ciaran were convincing winners but Edenderry did not give in easy and gave it everything they had in the second half but it just wasn’t enough.

Offaly Ladies GAA would again like to express their sincerist of thank yous to Tubber GAA for the use of their facilities, Jerry Robbins and to Ballycumber/Tubber Ladies for their help on the day.

The Offaly under 12 girls took part in a Blitz in county Carlow on Monday last. The future of Offaly Ladies football is looking great with many young girls playing extremely well on the day and showing it will not be their last time wearing a Offaly Ladies Football jersey. Many of the girls were playing their first match for the county but showedx their skill and endurance on the day. For such young players these girls can only improve to emerge as great Ladies Footballers.
