Offaly advanced to the semi-final of the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship with a win over Wexford but not before they gave their supporters some very nervous moments in O’Connor Park.
Leinster Senior HC Quarter-Final
Leading by 2-12 to 0-9 with 20 minutes to go, playing with the wind and playing the better hurling, Offaly should have cruised to victory but not for the first time they allowed Wexford back into a game.
Offaly didn’t add to their total for the remainder of the game while Wexford clawed their way back into contention.
A goal from a 21 metre free from Jack Guiney was a vital score in the comeback and he nearly repeated the trick in injury-time but his well struck shot was blocked on the line.
Offaly fans were on the edge of their seat right to the end but thankfully only two minutes of injury-time was played (there would have been no complaints if there had been five) as the home side held on for the win.
