Offaly 3-6

Westmeath 0-7

With both sides without the services of several potential starters, the Offaly supporters in O’Connor Park last Sunday would have gone home cautiously optimistic for the all important league campaign ahead.

After their strong start, they did go for 25 minutes either side of half-time without scoring but they took control in the final quarter to run out comfortable winners.

Ken Casey top scored with two goals while Alan Mulhall, converted from full forward to goalkeeper, scored 1-1 in a powerful all round display.
