FOOTBALL LEAGUES

The Offaly Football Leagues commence this coming weekend with Round 1 in both Division 1 & 2 for Edenderry’s Senior and Junior Teams. This is an earlier start than usual and with the poor weather there has been little opportunity to get some game time in.

Please keep an eye on our website and social media closer to the time of the fixture as our pitch is very heavy at the moment. The weather is not set to improve this week and therefore the fixtures may be moved from the main pitch.

10 EURO DRAW

Committee members are currently out selling tickets for the GAA’s National Draw. This is an exciting draw being administered by Croke Park with a wide range of excellent prizes. Please support the draw as all ticket money raised will go toward the running of the Club in 2014. The monies will be used to assist all teams in the club with expenses for 2014 from CÚL REDZ to Senior. The tickets can also be purchased on-line a www.edenderrygaa.com

.

UNDERAGE COACHES APPOINTMENTS

A meeting will be held next week for all persons interested in helping out underage coaching in 2014. The Coaching & Games Committee and Bord na Nog Committee has been working hard over the past few weeks to recruiting coaches. They have identified a shortage of coaches for underage Hurling and a big push is on to find people interested in giving a few hours to look after one of our underage teams. The open meeting will be advertised heavily and we would encourage all those interested in coaching football and particularly hurling to come along and get involved.

‘ANNUAL NIGHT OF THE REDS’ 8th MARCH

Keep Saturday the 8th of March free in your diary, as the club will host a Gala evening in the Clubhouse. The ‘Annual Night of the Reds’ which incorporates the Awards night and launch of the Easter Rising promises to be a night not to be missed. Tickets for the night will be on sale in the coming weeks and at 10 euro they represent great value for a seated buffet, live music and great company. The victorious Minor League winning team will also be presented with medals on the night. We would hope to see members young and old and also those that have not being involved for some years – you are always welcome back for a good night.

.

UNDERAGE COACHING HURLING COACHING

Hurling Coaching for U8 Boys and Girls continues every Tuesday evening in the St. Mary’s School Hall at 6pm. This is a great introduction to our National Game and attending children get an opportunity to try out the skills of hurling in a fun environment. New players always welcome. Edenderry will be entering teams in the upcoming North Kildare Spring Leagues and these young players will get a chance to test their skills whilst representing the Club.

LADIES UNDERAGE COACHING

Our underage Ladies indoor training season is up and running and we had a huge turnout of over 90 girls attending the first session on Friday last. Big thanks to all coaches and parents who helped out on the night. Training takes place in St. Mary’s Secondary School hall every Friday evening and times are 5-6pm for under 8 and 10s (girls born in 2004-2007)and 6-7pm for under 12s (girls born in 2002 and 2003). All welcome to attend and reminder to parents to bring drinks for their child. Thanks.

.

LADIES U14 TRAINING

U14 Ladies training Thursday evening at 6pm at the “Centre Field” Astro turf on the school lane. New players welcome. Please wear runners and bring €2 for pitch hire. PLEASE NOTE: It is now compulsory to wear mouth guards at all training sessions and matches.

.

JUNIOR ‘B’ FOOTBALL

In an effort to increase participation at Adult level the Club will be entering a 3rd Adult team in the Championship at Junior ‘B’ level. It is hoped that this side will cater for those that don’t have the time to commit to a full training schedule required for Senior & Junior ‘A’ and will act as a social team for the club. We believe this will attract the younger ‘recreational’ player and the ‘older’ retired players. Keep posted for more news on this item.

.

EASTER RISING PART II

The club are delighted to announce that in conjunction with Derry Rovers we will be hosting the sequel to the Easter Rising Fight Night on Easter Saturday 19th APRIL next. This was an amazing success last year and we hope that this years event will also be supported by the local community.
