Leinster Colleges Senior Football A Championship quarter-final

St Mary’s Edenderry 1-8

Athlone CC 0-8
.

The game was played on the excellent all weather pitch in St Loman’s in Mullingar and for much of the game there was little to chose between the sides.

With scores at a premium and with the injured Ruairi McNamee sitting on the bench, St Mary’s trailed by 0-3 to 0-4 late in the first half before McMonagle’s goal put Emmett McDonnell’s side in front.

The second-half was just as tight until McNamee was sprung from the bench and in tandem with McMonagle, he saw St Mary’s over the line.

McNamee scored one point and set up another as St Mary’s pulled away when it mattered to secure their place in the last four. The hugely impressive McMonagle finished the game with 1-4 and was the most influential player on the field while defensively St Mary’s were excellent throughout.

St Mary’s will play another Athlone side in the semi-final after Marist overcame Knockbeg College by 0-9 to 0-8 in their clash on Friday.
