The Offaly Camogie team’s incredible rise on the national stage continued when they overcame Kilkenny to book their place in the All Ireland Senior Camogie Quarter-Finals for the first time.
It was the second time this year the Offaly girls got the better of Kilkenny and they did so in style with goals early and late in the game.
Playing against the wind in St Brendan’s Park, Offaly got off to the dream start with a goal from Arlene Watkins with just seven minutes on the clock.
Kilkenny did haul themselves back into the game with the wind at their backs but at half-time they only held a slender one point lead at 1-7 to 1-6.
Driven on by player of the game Siobhan Flannery, Offaly gradually took control in the second-half and a goal from Elaine Dermody with ten minutes to go put them in front.
Offaly showed the experience gained from winning both Junior and Intermediate All Ireland titles in recent years as they controlled the last ten minutes to eventually run out deserved five point winners.
