Offaly advanced to the semi-finals of the Leinster U-21 FC where they will face Louth after a one point win over Kildare in Gracefield on Wednesday
Offaly had the benefit of an extra man for the last 20 minutes of the game when Mickey Kelly was dismissed for the visitors after a string of fouls but despite creating a number of chances, they only added one further point which allowed Kildare to stay in the game and set up a nervous last few minutes.
Kildare trailed by 0-7 to 0-5 when Mickey Kelly was dismissed after 39 minutes but they continued to battle and had chances to force the game to extra-time but three late shots went wide.
At half-time Offaly lead by a point at 0-5 to 0-4 having lead by three going into injury-time but a brace of points from midfielder Kevin Feeley for Kildare reduced the gap to the minimum.
Offaly had dominated defensively for much with Kildare being held scoreless for one spell of 23 minutes. At the other Anton Sullivan in fine form at the other end kicking four of his side’s points and he was only denied a goal midway through the half by a fine save from Mark Donnellan.
Stephen Hannon also had a great chance late in the game but he blasted just wide.
