Rhode’s Tom Coffey has been appointed as the interim Manager of the Offaly Senior Football team for the 2012 championship season.

He was appointed today at a meeting of the Offaly County Board Management Committee in O Connor Park.

The Committee acted quickly to fill the vacancy left following Gerry Cooney’s decision to step down on Thursday evening.

Coffey was a front runner for the job during the initial appointment process when Tom Cribbin stepped down last Summer but he withdrew from the process as it stretched into mid October.

A former Offaly U-21 manager and selector on the minor teams of the late 2000s that appeared in numerous Leinster Finals, Coffey has also had considerable success at club level with his native Rhode guiding them to two Leinster Final

He will take up the position with immediate effect and there are no further details available with respect to his backroom team, but this will be announced in due course.

Coffey had originally lined up former team-mates Phil O’Reilly and Colm Quinn as his selectors

This is Tom’s second term as Offaly interim Manager as he also fillied this position during the League campaign of 2009.
