Offaly U-12 girls travelled to Carlow on Saturday morning last to take part in the Leinster U-12 A Blitz.

They faced near neighbours Laois in their first game, who proved to be tough opponents and came away with the win, although the Offaly girls battled hard Laois claimed the points on a 1-03 to 0-04 scoreline.

In their second game Offaly took on Wicklow this game was also a close encounter, with the Offaly girls coming away with a great result winning by two points on a 1-04 to 0-05 scoreline.

On a high from their win over Wicklow their next opponents were Kilkenny. This was Kilkenny’s first time to participate in these games and they played well but Offaly were just that bit too strong for the cats and claimed their second win of the day.

Round four and a vital game for the girls, a win for Offaly would see them into the final but first they had to get over the mighty Meath. Meath had won three of their games and look favourites to win the title but they didn’t realise what the faithful County had in store for them. Offaly closed them down at every opportunity the back line shut up shop, all Meath managed to score in this game was two points, credit to all the girls they really played with grit and determination and earned their place in the final. This game finished on a 1-01 to 0-02 scoreline.

Offaly had to wait to see who their opponents would be in the final after a shocked Meath boarded their bus home. Laois played Wicklow and came away with a win to earn their place in the final with Offaly.

Game on and Offaly took total control from the throw in, they showed some terrific skill and a credit to their Clubs, but credit must also be given to their County management team of Chris Dwyer, Fiona Brady, Gerry Robbins and Nicola Duffy, changes made at crucial times made this an epic final and the fans totally enjoyed it all. A massive win for the girls as they scored 3-04 against Laois.

The underage structure and hard work in the County is starting to pay off, with three Leinster Titles this year. May 6th saw our U-16 squad win against Wexford, June 3rd our U-14’s claimed victory over Longford and this weekend a win for our under 12’s.

Our winning form kicked off on May 3rd when our Junior Ladies gained promotion to the Div 3 next year after winning the Division 4 League Title against Roscommon. They are awaiting the winners of Louth v Wexford now to see who they will play in the Leinster Final on July 13th.
