The winners of the Offaly Coiste na nOg Club of the Year and Merit Award for 2012 were announced at the Coiste na nOg AGM last week.

As the winners of the U-14 A Football title following a convincing win against Ferbane/Belmont and the manner in which they hosted during the Feile school visits and the Feile weekend, the winner of the Club of the Year was announced as St Broughan’s.

St Broughan’s is an amalgamation of three clubs Walsh Island, Bracknagh and Clonbullogue who have worked very hard to promote Gaelic Games in their area. Alan Mulhall and James Bennett accepted the Gerry Carroll Cup on behalf of the club.

For the Merit Award the committee decided to reward Clara who had competed in the semi-final stages at both Hurling & Football in U14 & U16 this year, reaching just one final in U-16 Football. This was a remarkable turnaround for the club as they failed to qualify for any knockout stage in 2011 so the efforts of their Underage committee and mentors were worthy of recognition.
