Offaly champions St Rynagh’s advanced to the semi-finals of the Leinster Intermediate Ladies Football Championship with a good win away to Navan O’Mahony’s on Sunday.

Leinster Ladies Football Intermediate Championship

Navan O’Mahoney’s 5-10

St Rynagh’s 1-8

St Rynagh’s were slow to get started but within five minutes Mairead Daly had equalised for the Rynagh’s girls.

The next six minutes was all Navan, with a goal from Sarah Stanley and a point from Amy Gillen.

Mairead Daly pulled a point back and from Olivia Flanagan’s kickout St Rynagh’s Ann Daly won possession and the ball was worked to Mairead Daly who scored a stunning goal.

The sides all level again at 1-2 apiece and Navan O’ Mahoney’s threw everything at the Rynagh’s girls and managed to notch up a few points. Had it not been for the excellent goalkeeping skills of Laura Devery in the Rynagh’s goals, Navan could have been two goals up at this stage.

St Rynagh’s steadied the game however and took the lead with a well taken point from Emma Corcoran and never looked back.

Goals from Virginia Donna and Mairead Kelly on the seventeenth and twenty-ninth minute and another point from Mairead Daly gave them a comfortable eight point cushion at the half way mark. St Rynagh’s 3-4 Navan O’ Mahoney’s 1-5.

Two minutes into the second half and the ball was in the back of the Navan goals, once again with Mairead Daly adding her second. Linda Sullivan was next to score for the girls in blue and gold with a well taken point from play.

There was a bit of a lull in the game with the St Rynagh’s girls tiring after a busy week. Navan O’ Mahoney’s managed to pull back two points between the seventh and twenty first minute of the second half.

St Rynagh’s had rested for this period and managed to curtail the O’ Mahoney’s pressure with Offaly Captain Siobhan Flannery playing a massive role in her Clubs defensive line at full back.

With only nine minutes remaining, the St, Rynagh’s girls took off again and points from Linda Sullivan (2), Mairead Daly (1) and Edel Flynn (1) saw the St, Rynagh’s girls safely into the semi- final of the Tesco Leinster Intermediate Club Championships, where they will take on last year’s Junior Champions Thomas Davis of Dublin, on Saturday October 19 in Banagher at 2pm.
