Clara crush ragged Rhode

FORCEFUL and purposeful Clara produced their best performance of 2011 as they outmuscled and outmanoeuvred reigning champions Rhode by a comprehensive 0-14 to 1-5 in Sunday’s surprisingly one sided Tullamore Court Hotel SFC semi-final at O’Connor Park where the sod held up remarkably well following a torrential deluge of rain that fell just before the interval.

Clara 0-14

Rhode 1-5

In this repeat of the past two county finals, Rhode struggled miserably for scores, and with their talisman Niall McNamee being expertly and tenaciously crowded out anytime he gained possession, Clara were far more proficient and they deservedly outscored the holders by 0-10 to 0-1 over the closing 35 plus minutes.

Nine players (including all six starting forwards and eight scored from general play) got in on the scoring act for the impressive ’09 Dowling Cup winners who now face Edenderry in the final – the only previous Clara versus Edenderry showdowns were in 1995 & 1957, both won by Edenderry, 2-10 to 1-10 & 3-6 to 0-2, respectively.
