Coláiste Íosagáin secured their place in the second round of the Leinster Colleges “A” football championship in Portarlington last Friday afternoon with a performance that was at least as comprehensive as the final five point winning margin suggested.
Coláiste Íosagáin 2-10
St Fintan’s HS 2-5
In truth the players and management of the Portarlington school will be disappointed that they subjected themselves to such a nervy finish at McCann Park, because there was little or no need for it in a game where they dominated possession and looked by far the more incisive team up front from start to finish.
A well taken early score for St Fintan’s centre forward David Fallon was the best possible start for the North Dublin school, who were taking part in senior “A” football for the first time in their history, however that proved to be a false dawn as Coláiste Íosagáin went on to dominate the rest of the first half, at one stage building up an seven point lead.
