FOLLOWING hot on the heels of the appointment of Clara’s Brian Gavin as referee for this Sunday’s eagerly awaited All-Ireland senior hurling championship final between Tipperary and Kilkenny at Croke Park, a second Offaly hurling reiteoir has also been handed a major assignment.

Kinnitty’s Tony Carroll will officiate at the Bord Gais U-21 Hurling Championship Final between Dublin and Galway at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Saturday week, September 10.

Offaly GAA Chairperson Pat Teehan congratulated both men on their respective appointments and said it was a big honour for them and the county. “Offaly has a proud tradition of producing accomplished referees that have officiated at the highest level and I wish Brian and Tony and their umpires well in what promise to be two thrilling finals.”
