Leinster U-21 Hurling Final

Laois 1-13

Kilkenny 4-24

Just days after their senior counterparts had been surprisingly beaten by Galway in the Leinster Senior Final, the Kilkenny U-21s were determined that the same fate would not befall them and they started at a whirlwind pace catching Laois cold.

An early goal from Ger Aylward helped the Cats to a 1-4 to 0-0 lead with only four minutes on the clock and their pace never dropped in the opening half as they went to the break 3-14 to 0-6 ahead.

To their credit Laois came out fighting after the break and thanks to a goal from Neil Foyle nine minutes after the restart they had reduced the gap to 11 by the midway point of the half.

However any slim hopes they had of pulling off an incredible comeback were dashed as Kilkenny hit their fourth goal of the game eight minutes from time to remove any lingering doubt over the outcome of the game.
