U21 Football Championship Round 1
St Patrick’s overcame Na Fianna by twenty points on Sunday morning in Geashill. The Edenderry parish outfit were slow to get out of the blocks in the first half but despite this they led by 7 points at half time on a 1-10 to 1-03 scoreline. In the second half their superior fitness and scoring ability came to the fore as the simply ran riot on the Na Fianna defence to end the game 20 points in front.

Three Edenderry players on Offaly Schools Hurling Team
Following a good victory last week against Carlow , Offaly Schools Under 14’s faced a huge step up in class when they took on the legendary St. Kierans College of Kilkenny in Mount Bolus in near Baltic conditions today. Edenderry were represented on the team by Oisin O’Grady in goals, Eoin Dunne in the full back line and Shane Cummins on the edge of the square. This game ebbed and flowed from start to finish with our 3 Edenderry representatives again giving a good account of themselves . Offaly were in this game right up until the end and were unable to break the strong St. Kierans goals , which was well marshalled by Conor Carey ( son of the legend DJ Carey ) .
Offaly now face St. Peters of Wexford next weekend in a must win game which on todays performance is a task which is not beyond them. Some fine performances by Conor Curran, Mike Ryan and Shane Langton kept Offaly well in touch. In the end St. Kierans ran out 1-08 to 0-05 points winners.

U-21 Football Championship

.
Na Fianna U21 Footballers got the club’s playing campaign underway for this year last Sunday morning in Geashill as they came up against Edenderry side St Patricks in the Championship first round but unfortunately for Na Fianna their championship interest is over for another year as St Patricks claimed the win on a scoreline of 6-17 to 2-9. Na Fianna started brightly sending over 3 points to St Patrick’s 6 before they drew level in the 22nd min when corner forward Fintan Pierce was on hand to punch the ball to the for the opening goal. The remaining minutes of the half saw St Patricks stretch clear scoring 1-04 without reply as they led at the break by 1-10 to 1-03. Na Fianna got right back into it in the early stages of the second half shooting 3 points to 1 before Gary Martin & Richie Reynolds went up to meet a high ball into the square with Gary getting the finishing touch to flick the ball to the net for Na Fianna’s second goal which cut the deficit to 1 point. This would be as good as it would get for Na Fianna as St Patricks stormed ahead for the remainder of the game scoring 5-6 to 0-3 to wrap it up.
NA FIANNA: Adam Kinahan, Dean Pierce, Ian O’Halloran, Aaron Pierce, Fergus Flood, Brian Corcoran, Mikey Keogh (0-01), Niall Dempsey (0-01), Declan Byrne, Mark Garry (0-02), Richie Reynolds (0-05), Gary Martin (1-00), Fintan Pierce (1-00), Jason Darby, Eric Martin.

“Club Faithful” Offaly Supporters club

This club was set up prior to Christmas, and has done a great job in generating more support for Offaly teams and has also launched a number of initiatives aimed at kids.

Offaly play Clare this Sunday in O’Connor park, and before the game, kids can purchase player profile cards following on from the packs that were distributed to the schools. If they have any duplicates they can meet in the Tea/Coffee room under the stand and swap. There should be an opportunity to meet some players after the game.

Also anyone who wants to join Club Faithful please contact any member of the St Vincent’s committee, (membership is €20 and gives a car sticker, weekly text message of all underage and adult matches, and will text through the senior teamsheet for the upcoming games).

Proceeds of this will go to help the promotion of the GAA in schools and clubs, and has made a great start in getting people to attend matched.
