‘YOU are my legend’ – the words of three time All Star defender Kevin Kinahan as he congratulated Coolderry full back Trevor Corcoran following their historic AIB Leinster Club SHC Final victory over Oulart-the-Ballagh.
In a profile published in the 2011 county final programme, Trevor cited the giant Seir Kieran and Offaly stalwart, an All-Ireland SHC medal winner in 1994 & ’98, as the player he most admired when he was young.
“He was a great man to catch a ball. It is gas he came over to me after the Leinster Final and said ‘you are my legend’. It means a lot, something like that when you hear it from someone you looked up to all your life.”
Trevor (26) is one of four Corcoran brothers that will line out with Coolderry on St Patrick’s Day against Loughgiel Shamrocks. He will be joined by goalkeeper Stephen (21), left corner back Alan (27) and left half forward Martin (29).
“When you are six and seven years of age out in the back garden belting each other, you always dream of playing together and I suppose the Dooleys and Whelahans playing with Offaly set the bar for us. It will be a great day for us, especially for my mother and father to see us going out on Croke Park side-by-side.”
The Corcoran brothers have two sisters and Trevor quipped, “We’re blow-ins (to Coolderry).”
He explained, “My father is originally from Clareen, well he is actually from Shannon Harbour, and he moved to Clareen when he was young and he hurled for Seir Kieran all his life. My mother is from Drumcullen and maybe that is where we got the bit of steel from! I don’t think she ever played camogie but she lets on to know a bit.”
