FIRST time Offaly Senior Hurling Champions Kilcormac/Killoughey continued their superb form on Sunday with an historic win in the Leinster Club Senior Hurling Final
Leinster Club Senior Hurling Final
Oulart the Ballagh 0-11
The Offaly champions proved too strong for their Wexford opponents as they simply refused to be beaten with another excellent display.
After conceeding the first point of the game, Kilcormac/Killoughey responded in spectacular fashion with a goal from Dan Currams.
The full-forward was forced off with an injury soon after but that was not the end of his involvement as he returned in the second-half to have a major influence on the game.
In Currams’ absence, Kilcormac/Killoughey kept the scoreboard ticking over and three points in a row gave them a 1-5 to 0-4 lead after 20 minutes.
An experienced Oulart the Ballagh side playing in their fifth final managed to stem the tide and they reduced the gap to three by the break with the score at 1-7 to 0-7.
On the resumption Dan Currams returned with a bandage wrapped around his head under his helmet and Kilcormac/Killoughey extended their lead to 1-10 to 0-8.
With five minutes to go the lead was back down to three points again at 1-11 to 0-11 but in the closing stages Kilcormac/Killoughey defended brilliantly breaking up numerous attacks while at the other Dan Currams slotted over what proved to be the insurance point.
Both Leinster titles were won by first time champions on Sunday with Ballymun defeating Portlaoise in the Senior Football Final.
