ONE of the greatest entertainers and comedic actors of the last forty years received a well deserved tribute on the Late Late TV show of November 18. The universally loved family comedian was in sparkling form on the night with spectacular performances of his most popular parody ‘Father of the Bride’ and the naughty schoolboy ‘Bottler’. It was lovely to hear him singing his No 1 record ‘Cushy Butterfield’ from all those years ago as Brendan is also regarded as one of Ireland’s finest singers.
This was a really nostalgiac evening with contributions from Joe Mac (Dixies) Red Hurley and Dickie Rock and Video tributes from Michael Flatley and Burt Reynolds. I am sure if he was still with us a tribute would have arrived from the late great Frank Sinatra who admired Brendan so much and worked with him all over the world in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.
Brendan is now celebrating 40 wonderful years in comedy and after all these years his popularity continues to grow probably because his DVDs are marked Under 12’s and are watched and enjoyed in homes all over Ireland.
Brendan’s latest DVD ‘It’s a Great Laugh’ is due for release on November 28 and once again will probably be another No 1 for the greatest family comedian of his generation.
Long may he continue to bring his special brand of comedy to venues all over Ireland.
