Now is the time to start renovations and redecorating if you want a new sitting room for Christmas.
Think about what you want to achieve in the room, do you want a glamorous drawing room or a relaxed comfortable family room or maybe some where in between.
Look through magazines and cut out rooms that appeal to you, you’ll soon discover a pattern of what you are more drawn to.
It is good to analyse the details in the pictures and think how you can achieve the same affect in your room.
Be realistic, if you’re in a low ceiling cottage and all your pictures are of long Georgian windows with high ceilings your doomed to fail!
As the suite will be the most expensive item in the room I tend to start here.
Have you a good quality frame that you could have recovered?
Don’t just pick one fabric and have the whole suite the same, select a few mix and match fabrics in similar colours for a more interesting look.
Be careful to choose a competent upholster and decent fabric.
If buying a new suite doesn’t be tempted with cheap offers, you get what you pay for and a quality suite will last a lifetime.
Finline in Emo have an extensive range of styles and fabrics to choose from at prices we can afford.
Maybe you have two comfortable chairs that can be recovered and then invest in new couch.
Think about the size of the room and it’s always a good idea to measure out will your new suite fit and not be too big for the space.
Very large three seaters take up a huge amount of space and remember no matter how big the couch is only two people will sit on it.
Two two seaters are often a better option or even a collection of chairs and one couch.
Curtains can have a big impact on the room, not alone do they give glamour and luxury to the room but if interlined they can keep the heat in and draughts out.
If you have a patterned suite go for plain curtains in a luxury fabric like silk.
To add definition to the curtains use a beaded fringe on the centres or make the curtains with a rouched top heading for a fuller appearance.
New houses often have the radiator under the window, which can be a nuisance if you want long curtains. I would advise getting roman blind for the window with mock curtains either side.
What ever you decide to do it important to put the entire scheme together at the one time.
It may not be always possible to purchase everything that needed all together but at least you will have a focus and know where your going with the room.
At Noelle Interiors we will advise and help you achieve your ideal room and as always your interior design advise is free with your curtain order.
