Cosmopolitan Brighton is London by the sea

I want to take my girlfriend on a weekend break to England. I would like to stay away from London but would still like to have plenty to do to keep us entertained. Can you recommend somewhere suitable, places to stay, and things to see and do?

If you are looking for a fun-filled weekend away from the city, then look no further than Brighton. This charming seaside resort is convenient to London and has earned the name ‘London by the Sea’ due to its popularity with media and music types choosing to live there. Home to two universities, this cosmopolitan city is young, vibrant and creative, so you’ll be sure to have a great time.

When in Brighton a visit to The Royal Pavilion is a must. Considered to be one of the city’s top attractions, the Pavilion has an Indian style exterior and a spectacular Chinese interior. It is sure to be one of the highlights of your visit.

Next on the list is the world-famous Brighton Pier. With its traditional seaside amusements, stalls and fun-fair, it’s a perfect place to while away an afternoon. Take a stroll along the promenade or soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere at one of the funky cafés and bars. If you are feeling more adventurous you can have a go at one of the many water sports or sailing activities which Brighton beach has to offer.

In the city you will find several cinemas, concert halls, theatres, museums and art galleries to choose from. The Booth Museum of Natural History is well worth a visit as it has over a million specimens and natural history literature dating back over three centuries. Allow the big kid in you to escape with a visit to the Brighton Toy and Model museum.

Brighton is also great for shopping and is home to a mix of funky fashion stores as well as well-known high street brands. You’ll find modern shopping malls in Churchill Square and Brighton Marina or, for something a little more unique, check out the antique jewellery shops of the ‘Lanes’ in the old town or the vintage shops of North Laine.

The secret ingredient to the perfect break is finding that fabulous restaurant, cosy pub or hip bar and Brighton does not disappoint. Whether you’re after award-winning cuisine, veggie treats, a tasty beachfront brunch or delicious cheap eats, Brighton has something for everyone.

For a chilled-out dining experience, Breeze is the place to go as its laid-back atmosphere matches its name and is a great place to grab a bite after a day sightseeing. Finish the night off at Lola Lo which is an intimate Tiki bar and nightclub where you will be transported into a tropical oasis for the night.
