THE much–awaited arrival of Ireland’s most popular car occurs this week in Laois and Offaly, as local Ford Dealers: Colton Ford Tullamore; Downey’s Auto Stop, Portlaoise; and James Hamill Ltd, Ferbane, welcome the all-new Ford Focus into their showrooms. Nearly 100,000 Focus cars have been sold since its launch back in 1998, making the Focus badge a common sight on the roads of Laois and Offaly and across the country.
The all new Focus looks set to build on its unparalleled popularity, not least with its striking looks, a whole host of exciting new features and a highly efficient engine line up that makes every drop of fuel go further.
Eddie Murphy, Chairman and Managing Director of Ford Ireland says; “The anticipation among our customers across Laois and Offaly shows this is not just another new car. The Ford Focus has set the standard for its class over the past decade and, having tested the new model myself, I believe it will raise the bar yet again. This is a very special car.”
There’s a lot more to the Focus than its looks, but its sleek yet muscular styling is certainly enough to set heads turning. Its energetic appearance, embodying Ford’s kinetic design philosophy, points to the superior performance of the car on the road. The precision engineered powertrains provide maximum fuel efficiency while delivering power and refinement and excellent driving enjoyment. New Focus also comes with a range of smart new intuitive technologies that will again see the car setting the standard.
The Focus range is comprised of four series from the entry-level Focus, Edge and Zetec to the top of the range Titanium. The car is available as a sporty 5-door hatchback, sleek 4-door saloon or stylish 5-door wagon. Engines include an ultra-low CO2 1.6 and 2.0 litre TDCi diesel, as well as a thrifty new 1.6 petrol.
With the new Focus, Ford is introducing a range of new and really useful smart technologies, most of which are being made available for the first time to motorists who drive cars in this segment. These include: Active City Stop that will automatically bring the car to a halt in the event of a low-speed collision; Auto-Start-Stop which effectively turns off the car’s engine once the car has remained immobile and in neutral for a period of 0.5 seconds, thus saving fuel and reducing emissions; and Torque Vectoring Control which greatly improves cornering as the car reacts to the road 100 times per second resulting in more grip and ultra-precise handling.
A particularly useful feature for anyone who has ever struggled with parallel parking is Active Park Assist. The system uses sensors to scan both sides of the street for a suitable parking space and once a suitable one is found, the car’s on-board computer expertly steers the car into the spot with the driver only needing to work the clutch, brake and accelerator.
“We know many customers have held off on buying that 11-reg car until they see the new Focus,” says Eddie Murphy. “Now that it’s here, I’d urge them to drop in to their local dealer for a test drive. It will have been worth the wait!”
The new Focus is available from €20,825*.
