WALKERS and runners of every age and ability, including recently elected TD’s Barry Cowen and Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy, gathered at Tullamore Harriers last Sunday to participate in the annual Dóchas 4 mile Run/Walk in aid of the Offaly Cancer support group.
There was a festive atmosphere thanks to the St Columcille’s Pipe band who led the participants to the Railway Station which was the official starting point.
From there the runners took off at a gallop leaving the walkers and joggers to complete the route at their own pace.
Last year’s winner Paul Buckley and runner up Noel Kelly again were to the fore in the early stages along with Barry Minnock. With one mile to go Kelly made his move on the difficult uphill stretch and established a small lead over Buckley. Kelly ran strong over the final mile to hold Buckley at bay to gain sweet revenge for last year and hit the tape in a winning time of 20.26 with Buckley just a second adrift in second with Barry Minnock taking third place in 21.03.
Liz Cuskelly was the winner in the Ladies category in a time of 25.03 while John Donegan had a good run to finish in seventh place overall and first in the over 40 section with a 22.40 clocking.
The last lap took place at the Harriers and then the participants were treated to tea, coffee and refreshments. All the results with times for all the participants are available on the Tullamore Harriers facebook page.
