Audi's new compact A1 model has recorded top marks in the latest round of Euro NCAP crash safety testing.
The A1 received a five star rating from the body charged with examining the safety of new European models, with some of the best scores in the model's segment for adult protection in a frontal, rear or side collisions, child safety and pedestrian protection.
The German manufacturer has hailed the success of the A1's special front end design, which aims to mitigate damage to pedestrians and cyclists in the event of an accident.
Improved stability courtesy of standard ESP has also contributed to the vehicle's excellent safety rating.
Available with a range of petrol and diesel engines, the Audi A1 costs from 13,420.
