Volvo’s all-new V40 has been named ‘Continental Irish Compact Family Car of the Year’ at the 2013 Continental Irish Car of the Year Awards, judged and hosted by Irish Motoring Writers Association, held at the Convention Centre Dublin on Thursday November 22.
The Irish Motoring Writers Association judges awarded points on the basis of criteria ranging from innovation and safety to space, comfort, build quality, driving quality and value for money.
The Volvo V40, launched earlier this year, has been an instant hit with journalists and the buying public. With its fresh Scandinavian design, innovative safety features and exciting driving dynamics, the V40 showcases Volvo’s new Designed Around You philosophy, putting the driver at the centre of the ride experience through handling, style, comfort and advanced technology. The V40 is available from €26,995 and with class-leading CO2 emissions of 94g/km.
The V40’s standard-fit, world’s first pedestrian airbag, combined with Volvo’s established City Safety and Pedestrian detection technology earned it recognition as the Continental Irish Compact Family Car of the Year 2013. Designed to help cushion the impact of a pedestrian hitting the vehicle by lifting the bonnet to create an extra deformation zone, fully inflating the airbag and covering the lower parts of the a-pillar and bottom third of the windscreen, all within a few milliseconds of the impact. The pedestrian airbag has also contributed towards the V40 receiving the highest ever recorded score by Euro NCAP.
Volvo V40 range specification has also been enhanced by the addition of Bluetooth and High performance audio now standard equipment across all three bodystyles. The all-new Volvo V40 range has given its competition its toughest test yet, thanks to a unique blend of low-emission luxury with no restrictions on equipment or specification level.
Revealed earlier this year, the V40 is joined on the road by the R-Design and Cross Country derivatives. The V40 R-Design has taken cues from its R-Design stable mates in the rest of the range, with a re-profiled front bumper and rear diffuser, five-spoke 17” Ixion wheels, silver matt door mirrors, unique R-Design embossed nubuck upholstery, sports floor mats, sports steering wheel and pedals. In addition to this, as standard, the V40 R-Design benefits from a TFT crystal display screen with unique blue colouring, illuminated gear-knob, unique R-Design aluminium trim and vertical LED day-running lights.
The V40 Cross Country is Volvo’s answer to those customers that want a small 5-door hatchback but with a more ‘off-road’ and rugged look. As standard, the Cross Country ES is equipped with City Safety technology, DSTC (Dynamic Stability Traction Control) system and Pedestrian airbag, power windows, ECC (electronic climate control), Leather steering wheel and gearknob.
