One of the most hotly-anticipated sports cars of 2012 made its public debut at the LA Auto Show as Porsche pulled the wraps off the second-generation Cayman coupe.

In principal a fixed-roof version of the latest Boxster, the new Cayman benefits from the latest technology and engineering to give significant improvements over the outgoing car. Porsche claims the latest Cayman is as much as 30kg lighter and 15% more fuel efficient than before.
A smarter and more elegant design than before, the Cayman has the distinctive kicked-up tail spoiler from the Boxster while at the front the wide air intakes and vertical headlights visually link it with both the Boxster and the bigger 911 and Panamera models.
The Cayman is available with a 2.7-litre flat six in the standard car or a 3.4-litre version in the Cayman S producing 275PS and 325PS respectively. Both come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard or can be fitted with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox which significantly enhances performance: equipped with PDK and the Sport Chrono package the standard Cayman reaches 62mph in 5.4 seconds while the S manages it in a remarkable 4.7 seconds. Top speed is 164mph and 174mph respectively when fitted with PDK.
Almost as impressive is the efficiency performance, which ranges from just 36.7mpg and 180g/km for the standard Cayman with PDK to 32.1mpg and 206g/km - once again PDK-equipped cars have better performance in these areas than manual cars.
Inside the Cayman has better cabin materials, an improved range of options and an upgraded audio system, while features such as radar-adaptive cruise control improve overall safety.
