Kia has released a concept drawing of its forthcoming pro_cee’d GT, giving the world a first look at the company’s first hot hatch.
The GT will be the first performance-biased Kia ever to leave the factory, and it is hoped that the model will make inroads into what is still a lucrative corner of the European car market.
Confirmed details are few. The pro_cee’d GT will have a turbocharged 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine, power output is expected to be around 180bhp. The Hyundai Veloster Turbo already uses the same engine at that power output and it’s unlikely that Kia’s parent company will allow the new hatch to outshine the range-topping Veloster.
The concept wears familiar Kia styling, and while the overlarge wheels and squashed roof line are exaggerations of the designers’ eventual intent, there is little doubt that the GT will be a great looking car.
It will be launched in the second half of 2013, with first drives likely to come in August before an official launch for the traditional new registration in September.
