DPD expansion positive news for Tullamore

DPD Offaly has welcomed the expansion of its central distribution and fulfilment facility in Athlone due to DPD winning recent multi-million euro contracts.

The Offaly depot, based in Tullamore, is one of 38 depots nationwide and with its latest expansion, DPD Ireland expect to create over 50 new positions over the next 18 months.

Founded in 1986, with just 10 depots, DPD has rapidly grown to become Ireland’s leading express parcels provider currently employing over 600 people.

Sean Dunican has owned and run DPD’s Offaly depot since 1999. “This is a real positive boost for us here in Offaly. DPD’s business directly reflects Ireland’s changing economic environment. The more we’re delivering, the busier Irish companies are.

“Our customers have become increasingly cost conscious - right across every sector. Not just here in Offaly but nationwide. We’ve had to adapt quickly to that change. Through strong investment in Research and Development and Technical Innovation, we’ve improved efficiencies for DPD and for our customers. We’re delivering their products faster, safer, and more cost effectively.”

DPD currently contribute over €40 million to the Irish economy. It has 350 vehicles on the road, carrying over 8 million parcels a year.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said, “The announcement that DPD Ireland is expanding its business in Athlone with the creation of 50 jobs is a great boost for the region.

“This is a company expanding through increased use of technology, R&D and innovation, and through the Action Plan for Jobs we will be seeking to encourage more businesses to follow this path. I congratulate all involved and wish them all the best for the future”.
