Teagasc event to focus on profitable cereals production

Teagasc Westmeath/Offaly are holding a Spring Tillage Crops Seminar which will be held in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Wednesday 8th February, 2012, commencing at 8pm.

According to Paul Fox, Teagasc Tullamore, the event will focus on maintaining the high cereal crop yields of recent years, while keeping a close eye on input costs.

Speakers at the event will include John Bergin of R&H Hall who will examine the market outlook for Cereal prices in Autumn 2012. Cereal prices are largely determined by global supply and demand factors, and John will attempt to project how these trends will influence the market place towards the end of the year

Fertiliser prices are on the rise again, and fertiliser costs now account for up to 50% of material input costs. Michael Hennessy, Teagasc Tillage specialist will examine the options for judicious use of fertiliser and manure inputs, without negative effects on crop yields.

Local Teagasc advisor Pat O’Gorman will examine the latest Cereal recommended list for 2012 and discuss cereal costs and returns.

The event is free of charge and is open to all cereal farmers.
