Offaly firm highly commended at SFA awards

Hyland Express Cargo, the Offaly member for The Pallet Network (TPN), has contributed to TPN being highly commended in the environmental sustainability category at this year’s annual Small Firms Association (SFA) Awards.

A certificate of Commendation was presented to TPN by Richard Bruton, Minister of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. The Pallet Network (TPN) is one of Ireland’s leading freight, transport and logistics services providers. Hyland Express Cargo is one of the 23 regional national network carriers for TPN.

Hyland Express Cargo, founded by Edward Hyland in 1933 and run today by Joseph and Gerard Hyland. They operate 16 tipper trailers from their brand new, state-of-the-art facilities. Hyland Express is based in a 24,000 square foot high bay warehouse. Gerard Hyland, Principal, Hyland Express, said, “Despite the continuing economic downturn, we have focused on becoming as lean as possible, cutting costs while maintaining services. Being part of TPN, a multi-million euro network, enabled the company to grow because of the support and encouragement from the other network members. This year we are going to focus on staying lean and providing the best overnight service and the best customer service. These are the initiatives that helped us thrive in 2011. We are looking ahead to a successful 2012 and hoping to be shortlisted again next year in the SFA awards.”

The aim of the SFA National Small Business Awards is to celebrate the achievements of small businesses (with up to 50 employees) in Ireland, and to recognise the vital contribution of the small business sector to the Irish economy and to showcase Ireland’s entrepreneurial talent like TPN and its members.

Seamus McGowan, Managing Director, TPN said, “TPN and its 23 members are delighted to have been highly commended in the SFA’s Environmental Sustainability category. As concern for the environment rises, TPN has taken into account the external costs of logistics associated with climate change, air pollution, noise, vibration and accidents and has put in place a number of systems and new, greener, more fuel efficient equipment to help combat these growing concerns. Our continuing success is down to the 23 committed members that we have around the country. The efforts of members like Hyland Express Cargo have meant that we are meeting the needs of both small and large enterprises and keeping our services levels as high as ever. We hope to continue this success throughout 2012.”
