Local breeders get top prices for Simmentals at Roscommon Show

Local breeders featured prominently at the recent Simmental premier show and sale in Roscommon. The average price for bulls was €3,410, up 360 on the same price last year, with prices ranging from €2,000 to €10,000.

Bull prices included: €6,000 to Garrett Behan, Ballyfin for Clonagh Buckarooney Truly, sired by Banwy T-Rex and bouth by Ryhs Grenham, Boars Head Simmentals, England.

€5,200 to Ray Bracken, Tullamore for a Curaheen Wakeman son, Cruithill Batthelor, bought by Seamus Murphy, Ennis

€4,800 to Garret Behan, Ballyfin for Clonagh Bravo by Banwy T-Rex from Peter Byrne, Rathdangan, Wicklow.

€4,000 to Jennie Aherne, Cappamore, Limerick for a Towerhill What a Superboy sired bull, Rubyjen Captan Jack, bought by Olga Hardy, Daingean

€4,000 to Garrett Behan for Clonagh Chieftain ET-sired by Banwy T-Rex boughy by Richard Tyrell, Edenderry;

€4,000 to A & G Brickley, Coolrain for a Celtic Aengus sired bull, Celtic Charles, bought by Christopher Kelly, Longford.

The female section also saw an average price of €3,410, up €1,100 on the same sale last year.

Local prices here included: €3,850 to Ray Bracken, Tullamore for Cruithill Big Bew, bought by Chris Traynor, Armagh; €3,000 to Ray Bracken, Tullamore for Cruithill Ciara, sired by Curaheen Wakeman, and bouth by Niall Daly, Kells; €3,000 to Ray Bracken, Tullamore for a Curaheen Wakeman sired heifer Cruithill Caroline, boughy by Seamus Leahy, Castlepollard.
