ITICA prepares for National Fish and Chips Day

GOLDENFRY and Luigi's, Edenderry; Macari's, Tullamore and Angelo's Takeaway, Banagher have become members of the newly formed Irish Traditional Italian Chippers Association (ITICA) and they now proudly display the ITICA logo.

Currently with over 160 members around the country, ITICA was created to promote and build on the traditional values and ethos of the Irish Italian chipper community.

Peter Borza, Chairman of ITICA commented, "We have been overwhelmed with the response to ITICA so far and we are delighted to see the membership growing each day."

Mr Borze added, "ITICA was established to highlight how we are unique. We are family run, community based businesses, often with several generations of one family working in the same shop.

"We only use fresh ingredients, with no additives or preservatives. All our products are prepared freshly on site, down to the hand cut chips and our renowned vinegar! We want consumers to be assured of both quality and service when they see the ITICA logo!"

National Fish & Chips Day on Wednesday, May 26 is set to further mark the much loved tradition of fish and chips with all ITICA members offering half price fish & chips on that date.

The Irish Italian chipper culture was started by members of the Irish Italian community who arrived in Ireland in the 1880's. All members of this community come from the villages in Val Di Comino in Southern Italy.
