Edenderry’s determined promotion push

EFFORTS to promote Edenderry will continue as its town councillors vowed to push on with the campaign to do more for the town.
In a bid to get the ball rolling, the councillors will now meet with the county’s Economic Development Officer in the coming weeks to discuss how can the issue be moved along.
The decision was taken at the April meeting of Edenderry Town council to meet with the Development officer, Mr David Minton.
This forthcoming meeting follows on from a recent meeting with Deputies Marcella Corcoran Kennedy and Charlie Flanagan where the councillors outlined their concerns for the town.
Cllr Finian O’Neill said the minutes from that meeting appeared to be very positive and he hoped that something will come out of it.
Stressing the need to set up something for Edenderry, Cllr Jim Murrin thanked Deputies Marcella Corcoran Kennedy and Charlie Flanagan for their courtesy.
“I still think we need to have something on hand for when we do meet with the IDA and say this is what we have. We have to show what the town has to offer,” he said as he explained the importance of putting together promotional material for the town.
Cllr O’Neill agreed with Cllr Murrin.
Declan Conlon, Director of Services, Offaly County Council, said that following on from the recent meeting with the TDs he had spoken with the Economic Development Officer, David Minton, who he said has a lot of experience in this area.
“Mr Minton is prepared to come over and see what he can do for you,” Mr Conlon pointed out.
He also noted the business group currently being run by Edenderry Credit Union and suggested that perhaps, the Town Council could co-operate with them in a joint project.
Cllr Murrin agreed that a meeting with Mr Minton should be organised and this would “put us on the right road and then look for a meeting with the IDA”.
Cllr Fergus McDonnell also agreed with this suggestion.
However, Cllr John Foley was slightly critical of the current situation and thought that the Town Council should be doing more to promote the existing facilities and units in the town rather then looking to outside for assistance.
Cllr O’Neill again pushed for a meeting with Mr Minton as the “first stop” after which Mr Conlon agreed to organise a meeting with the Economic Development Officer in the coming weeks in order to push the initiative forward.
