WITH the rising cost of fuel, it is becoming more evident that electric vehicles are the future. Owners of electric vehicles will be pleased to hear that Birr is the latest town to have a public charging point installed.

This week, Eunan Duigenan Commercial Manager from Tullamore Motors drove the Renault Kangoo Maxi ZE to Birr to check it out.

The new public charging point is located in Marian Hall car park. By using the E-car swipe card, which every electric vehicle owner will receive from the ESB, charging could not be any easier.

“Ireland is ready for the electric generation. It’s no longer the future, it’s the present, and we are ready to sell affordable electric vehicles to suit all lifestyles, ” explained Eunan Duigenan.

Renault’s strategy is to make electric vehicles affordable to all and Tullamore Motors are standing by this by bringing in a range at prices that cannot be matched by their competitors.

Renault’s approach is based on leasing the battery. Renault is fully responsible for the maintenance and warranty of the battery for its consumers. It’s a smart move that may well provide the reassurance buyers need to make the leap to an electric car.

The Kangoo ZE is on sale from €16,400 ex VAT including the Government grant of €3,800. The Kangoo ZE battery will cost € 75 ex VAT per month to lease based on 48 months, 15,000 KM per year.

Renault have launched a ZE offer for the Fluence ZE and Kangoo ZE including two years free Battery Rental and a five year unlimited mileage warranty. Customers who purchased a Renault ZE will also have free wall box fitted at their homes or place of work, imagine your own personal fuel station!

A full charge will take between 6-8hrs and at night time rates will cost you under €2!
