Entries sought for Irish Forest and Woodland Awards


The RDS is calling for entries from Laois for the Irish Forest and WoodlandAwards

With less than a month to go until the closing date for entries for the 2016 IrishForest and Woodland Awards, the RDS is calling on Laois farmers, landowners,and community groups to enter now for their chance to share in the €10,000 prize fund.

The Awards are Ireland’s only national forestry awards and are divided into threemain categories which highlight, celebrate and reward those who are at theforefront of economic, environmental and community development of the forestrysector in Ireland.

Entry is quick and easy with all information found on the RDSwebsite.

RDS Agriculture Chairman, Mr Tom Kirley said: “Everyone with woodland is encouraged to enter as all woodlands, large or small, are of merit. The woodlands and forestry of Laois are some of the most productive andpicturesque in the country, and we were delighted to present Mr Ivor Clegg ofMountrath, with the Production Forestry Award in 2015.

“We know that there aremany great people in the area that we have yet to recognise but they need toapply first to have a chance to win.”

Those involved in the forestry sector are encouraged to nominate their friends and neighbours if they think they are worthy candidates.
