STELLA Davis from Mountbolus, Tullamore a third-year student in agricultural science in UCD, has been awarded a scholarship by the Agricultural Science Association (ASA) to support the cost of completing part of her training in Kenya.

Stella, who is specialising in environmental science, will work on a university research farm and will visit commercial research farms during her stay in Kenya.

She is just one of four recipients nationally of the ASA scholarships, which are sponsored by AIB. Professional work experience during year three of the four-year course is an integral part of the UCD agricultural science course and ASA President, Pat O’Keeffe, said the scholarships are aimed at encouraging students to gain experience of the global agri-food industry.

“Competition for these scholarships was intense and Stella is a worthy winner. I am confident she will benefit both personally and professionally from her time in Kenya,” said Mr O’Keeffe.
