TULLAMORE’S Jean Clarke was among six engineering students at the University of Limerick that were recently awarded 2012 Women in Engineering Bursaries.

The six female students are all first years and currently undertaking engineering programmes at UL.

Jean is pursuing BE Aeronautical Engineering and the five other recipients were Niamh Richardson Biomedical Engineering; Marion Carroll BE Mechanical Engineering; Liana Cechladze BE Computer Aided Engineering and Design; Sarah O’Donoghue 1st Year BE Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and Grace Molloy 1st Year BE Engineering Choice.

The bursaries were established fifteen years ago by the Faculty of Science & Engineering to encourage women to enroll on full-time undergraduate engineering programmes where they are significantly under-represented. Bursaries were awarded to the students on the merit of their leaving cert results.
