Agri Aware, the agri-food educational body, has launched their Buy Local, Buy Quality Irish Food, Christmas campaign.
The campaign encourages consumers to think local this Christmas and support the 300,000 Irish jobs on farms and in agri-food companies nationwide.
“Consumers who buy Irish are supporting farming families and the Irish agri-food industry this Christmas,” says Agri Aware Chairman, Bernard Donohue.
He added, “This is the time of the year when people spend most and we encourage all consumers to purchase quality Irish food this Christmas. Source a high quality turkey reared in your locality, stay with our traditional Irish vegetables and make sure your roast potatoes are home grown. Keep your local farmers in business so that they can continue to deliver the quality, wholesome Irish food as part of ‘Brand Ireland’.
“2011 has been a challenging year for us all. However, consumers who act with national festive spirit, can support the livelihood of one-in-seven people in the country,” he concluded.
Buying local means you don’t just support the livelihoods of farmers and those involved in the agri-food industry, but also the thousands of students who see a bright future in the industry.
